Subj: How to use “laziness” as fuel

——————

I’ve just returned from Chiang Rai, Thailand. Chiang Rai is in the very north of Thailand, bordering on Laos and Burma. The area is known as the “Golden Triangle” and is famous for “previously” being a heavy opium producing area.

I spent a lovely few days riding a motorbike around the mountains and around town and doing a bit of hiking to get up to the famous Khun Korn waterfall.

On the evening flight home I was reading a book on my iPad kindle “app”. The book I was reading is called How I Found Freedom in an Unfree World by Harry Browne. I found myself skipping page after page. Not because I didn’t like the book, but because I found myself agreeing with everything I was reading. It was like reading a book that Uncle Victor might have written.

I came to one page and read a quote that had me chuckling in recognition. The quote goes like this:

For years, whenever it was appropriate in conversations, lectures, and writing, I’ve casually mentioned one or more such things as: I have no interests in governments, groups, crusades or religions; I’m lazy and have learned to live with it and enjoy it; and I see nothing wrong with being selfish.

“Ha ha” I had to say to myself in recognition.

You see, I have a confession to make. You caught me red handed….

Not only do I have zero interest in going on idealistic crusades or in belonging to any groups, not only am I selfish without remorse, I am also lazy.

Huh?! Say it ain’t so Vic!

Let me explain…..

I’m not lazy in a wake up at noon, sit at home, smoke dope, eat snacks, don’t shower or shave and just watch TV kind of way. I’m lazy in a different way. The list of things I don’t like to do is endless. The list of things I like to do is considerably shorter. So I just don’t do things that I don’t like to do. Since I don’t do or rarely do things I don’t like to do I have free time to do as I wish.

Google defines “lazy” as not inclined to work or exertion.

But for this purposes of this article I don’t like that definition, and I don’t like “standard” lazy people. I am going to cheat a little and use my own definition of laziness.

The B&D definition of laziness, in this instance, is not being inclined to work or exertion when there is no clear benefit to do so or; the act of not doing things you don’t want to do or; the act of not doing things that don’t benefit you.

Using the above B&D definition of laziness I’m going to give you two tips to not only be lazy and be OK with it, but actually turn laziness into a way to accomplish more.

The 2 ways that laziness can help you accomplish more

1) Eliminate competition by not having any competition in the first place

Laziness can help you cut out competition. Rather than starting a business in a competitive market the easy, peasy lazy way to cut out competition is to start a business that has no competition. If there are 500 bakeries in town it would be silly to open a bakery. Why compete and fight tooth and nail to get a piece of the pie when you can simply start something new and therefore start at the top.

It’s the difference between being a regular schlub starting at the bottom and working his way up the corporate ladder and being a man who starts his own business, in his own niche, and shoots straight to the top rather quickly.

I remember quite vividly visiting Beijing, China. In the area where all the foreigners hang out to drink and eat BBQ the Chinese have their own little stands and carts to sell knickknacks and things. I remember walking by at least 20 carts, in a very small area, that sold the same cigarettes and cigars. About every 10 feet there would be a man or a woman with a cart selling the same exact things as the man in front and the man behind. They were all selling the exact same items within a tiny radius of each other.

I couldn’t help but think a) how they could possibly make enough money to make it worthwhile and b) how they could be so stupid to sell the exact same thing right next to each other. You could never call these people lazy, they’re there from dawn to dusk every day, but you can easily call them stupid.

Instead of selling the exact same thing they could have opened their tiny little eyes and started selling something that no one else was selling. You can’t possibly be the #1 salesman selling the same thing as 100 other people next to you, but you can easily be #1 if you are the only one. It’s dumb to compete in a saturated market when you can dominate in a new one.

Standing around doing the same thing as everyone else is a waste of time and a waste of life. Do it new, do it better, or don’t do it, but don’t do the same. You’ll simply never get ahead if you stay in the middle and the “lazy” way to get ahead is to do something new that has no competition.

2) Outsource the tasks you don’t want to do

If there is some activity or chore that you don’t like to do then just let someone else do it.

I haven’t cooked a meal, cleaned my laundry or cleaned anything at all in over a year. I can’t even remember the last time I did either of those things. I don’t even make my own morning coffee.

I’m too lazy to do those time-consuming activities. I have ass to kick and I don’t want to waste my time farting around in the kitchen or mopping the floor.

But household chores must be done so I, wait for it, OUTSOURCE. Yes, I have those things done for me.

A man doesn’t need to do everything for himself. You don’t need to be cooking, cleaning, ironing, scrubbing floors and working on your business or working your job and bringing home the bacon. These household tasks can be done for you.

In a bygone era this style of living was standard and normal. Women cooked and cleaned, men earned the bread.

In our world it’s considered lazy or “unfair” for a man to not help out around the house. Who cares. Life is a thousand times better when you don’t have to worry about getting the cooking and cleaning done. Get yourself a little helper bee to take care of the housework so you can focus on business and your quality of life increases. If that’s laziness then you can call me lazy all day and night.

BONUS: How to be successful as a lone Wolf

I often get questions like “Victor, how did you find all this stuff out? Did you have a mentor like Rich Dad/Poor Dad or did your father teach you all this stuff?” and the answer to that question is no, I never had anyone like that. I’ve been a lone Wolf since I was 12 years old. What I know comes from experience and self-learning.

In fact, when I was a young man I was the subject of jokes about my “laziness”. An older family member would always tell me about the wonders of getting a degree, getting a good job in I.T., getting a 401(k) and retiring like a king. Even as a snot nosed punk I knew that advice was terrible and didn’t particularly follow it.

So you can believe me when I tell you that if you don’t have a mentor, if you don’t have a good teacher, if you don’t have a role model, or if you don’t belong to this group or that group it’s not the end of the world. Everything you ever wanted to learn about anything is available at your fingertips. At the click of a button you can learn anything you want. I am an entrepreneur because of the internet, no two ways about it, and I was lazy as can be until I started my own self education.

Being a lone Wolf can help you tremendously and I will tell you exactly how: As a lone Wolf you can feel free to disregard advice from Sheep.

Sometimes I get emails and comments along the lines of “But Victor, not everyone can do what you do!“. Guys, you may as well email me to say the sky is blue. If everyone could do what I can do then I would be out of business. So let me tell you the #2 benefit of being a lone Wolf: you are out of the ordinary and you are capable of doing extraordinary things IF! you want to and IF! you focus on it.

If you’re a lone Wolf worried about how best to fit in, my advice is to stop worrying. Don’t worry about fitting in. Being a lone Wolf is a gift because it gives you an outside perspective.

If you really wanted to fit in then all you need to do is stop reading Bold and Determined - The Website for Winners ™ and start reading gossip magazines in the office breakroom during your 45 minute pre-approved lunch break.

To each their own but I never much liked working around an office, pushing papers and attending HR meetings. I like to kick ass, lift weights, make money and climb mountains in northern Thailand on Tuesday afternoons so that’s what I do. I’m able to live like that because I avoid all activities that I don’t enjoy or that don’t get me closer to my goal and I don’t worry about “fitting in”.

Maybe that’s just me though.

Until next time.

Your man,

-Victor Pride

  1. One thing I noticed about coffee is that it makes me lazy, in the way mentioned in this post. I cannot stand doing tasks I don’t want to do such as cooking. Whereas the things I do want to do become much easier to accomplish.

    Great morning post Victor.

  2. Kick ass post as usual.

  3. Victor,

    Another quality article.

Just bought 30 days of discipline. Can’t wait to get started

  4. Great article as always.

Self-education is so important. So many people stop learning once school is done and that is the absolute worst thing you can do! Educate yourself everyday!

    • Too true, Steve. This failure to continue learning is even more dumb when you realise that we only gain the wisdom/means/insight/whatever to act on our learning a good time after the stage of our life spent at school.

Once you reach a certain age everything that you learn becomes actionable, it’s no longer theory on a textbook.

It’s this convergence of what you know with the ability to act on that knowledge that is the most powerful moment in a persons life. When not being a success becomes inexcusable.

So yeah - learn learn learn, and do, do, do.

      Btw, another awesome post Victor!

  5. Interesting post, as usual. I really like your view on laziness!

  6. Kick ass post!

  7. I like you articles, but is it possible to stop calling yourself “Uncle Victor” ? It comes across as so condescending.

  8. Nice perspective brother, I really enjoy reading these articles in the morning as the smell of bullshit fills the air. I’ve been telling people this for the longest time and what it comes down to is simplicity in life. When your not doing something you want to do, it becomes complicated, you grow grey hair and your wasting time kicking the wrong asses. Do what you want, make sure its with purpose and disregard the rest. Tell the “sheep” to eat shit and they will say thank you and get back to munchin’ because they like the way it tastes.

  9. Everyone always told me that I should try to fit in, but I never could understand the typical way that people lived life. And I definitely couldn’t understand the ignorance when a near infinite amount of information is at our fingertips.

When I got older, I finally started to except that fact that I’m a lone wolf simply because I don’t put up with all the bullshit were told and I do what I feel is right regardless of the consequences.

The moment I accepted being different is the moment I realized I was powerful, way more powerful than the sheep. And thus, I profit.

  10. An awesome post as usual. I am So happy to have joined this family at a young age. I am so different from my friends now. I can do things they spend days wishing they could do. all thanks to VICTOR PRIDE and the BnD family..

  11. Damn right definition. But still. The man has to be able to do everything. Even mobbing. Why? Because it takes one’s willpower to do so and you have to discipline yourself to have the job done : ) Another useful habit.
Actually, no lady can do mobbing better than the man. A clean home is a healthy home. The man has to make sure his family is safe and fine. The floor should not be outsourced. It’s too important.
I am now following your example, Vic, I mean the complex of superiority, and have started to view myself as a patriarch and my family as a little mafia. Blood is blood, and the boss takes care. This makes sense. The family is a value. The man’s value. One’s business and other accomplishments will be more valuable if they can be left as a legacy to the family, not just to enjoy financial success while having one’s arse dildoed as a homo.
Finally, 70 square meters make a perfect workout. Feels like a Spartan kicking asses and kicking them really hard. The entire body knows you are there.

  12. Vic! As always You are the man! Great Post! Now lets get to work!

  13. Reading these things from someone else is very uplifting. Too often it seems as though the entire world is trying to invalidate my view of life, and the way I want to live. I’d say more, but I have ti get back to making my dreams a reality.

  14. I have really enjoyed this, especially the part on using innovation to get straight on top and not fight for the piece of pie. Even though I figured it out myself quite some time ago, it’s always great to be reminded.

I am a 19 years old who started online business 3 years ago. Even though everyone mocked me (especially in my underdeveloped country) telling me that no one can make decent money sitting on their PC, I pushed on.

I stopped going to High School. Literally. I only came on the days of tests and exams in order to get rated and head to the next year. I just had that strong feeling there is nothing worthy I can learn from someone slaving away to make ends meet teaching me the basics of economy in literature made for 80’s last century. Also, I have considered spending 6 hours at least daily on regular classes is a complete waste of time. My parents said that they are going to kick me out if I don’t stop “dreaming” like a child and do something real (meaning, what society tells you to) with my life.

Each time they tried to discourage me, or tell me I can’t do it not because they enjoyed it, but because they simply did not knew better, it just fueled my ambition. Hundreds of times I’ve heard “You’re going to be a parasite for the rest of your life” , “I’ve met those like you who say hard work and choose to do nothing instead.” , “Are you crazy? Snap out of it, you’ll never make it” , “If sitting on your computer and making a fortune was possible, everyone would be doing it” , “Can you see it’s crisis in world? People are struggling and losing their businesses and you’re telling me you’ll make it without education” And on, and on, and on…

And not a single time I argued with them. I just knew, KNEW, what I was meant to do, and each time they told me shit like that, parents, friends, anyone! My commitment to achieving my goal only rose, and I got that amazing feeling from being focused on what I want and being fucking certain, not believing, KNOWING I’ll make it. I just didn’t pay any attention to it, didn’t give it any meaning, only used it as a fuel to act even harder upon achieving what I want.

So, instead of learning the “Basics of Economy” in my class, I was reading “The Science of Getting Rich”, “Think and Grow Rich”, “The Master Key System”, “How to get Rich” by Felix Dennis, programs from Tony Robbins, anything I could get my hands on I thought will help me.

While everyone was thinking I was in school, I was in a local dump of an internet caffe (couldn’t afford better at the time) building my business. Burning all the bridges behind me, I once said to my dad in one of his rants towards me, “I’ll rather die hungry pursuing my dream of being powerful businessman than spending my whole life in gray zone, slaving away to make somebody else rich.” And God’s my witness, I fucking meant it, each word.

I fucked up my grades (didn’t study nor attend classes at all), my academic future (loved it), became a disappointment for my parents and a mockery of my friends. But each morning I was at that stinking Internet Caffe building my business or by the river thinking how to make it.

It began when I was 17. I am 19 now. I have finished high school with very low grades. I was one of those nobody gets, I remember their looks, they were like “It’s cool man, but this is real fucking fucked up life…”, I was the subject of mockery of my teachers and my parents literally gave up and stopped even trying to talk to me about my future. at the time.

Now, I am an entrepreneur that has a powerful online empire earning me passively more from my computer chair than all of the bank CEO’s in my country make. Now, I am a man I feel fucking proud to be, with all the characteristics I fought so hard to acquire. I am still the one nobody gets, but everybody admire. My parents are so proud their talking around to friends and relatives they have the most genius son in the fucking world (was tellin them that the whole time). My peers just can’t get it, none of it, all I receive these days are dumb looks from guys, like “Wtf…”, and that look from girls like they wanna fuck me right here and now and can’t resist it.

What happened that is my pursuit for financial freedom, which I always felt strong urge to posses, because for me it means much more than fucking social status or being able to drive a BMW, led me to road of self improvement which affected EVERY SINGLE area of my life, from social interacting and bodybuilding, to dating and psychological. Financial freedom gives me the power to project my will, without any interference from the outside. It means being free. And it was always my primary goal. And I love it, and the feeling it gives me so much. So fucking much.

I just unexpectedly felt the urge to write this, and to thank you Victor, because in those years you were a strong encouragement, especially with posts like “Unconventional advice for young men”, “Arguing is a waste of time”, “Always be ready to do or die” in which I felt like I was reading on screen the voice that is screaming inside me for as long as I’ve known. I felt understood. And in those days when all you have is a vision nobody believes in except you, feeling understood means quite a lot. So, sincere thanks to you, my friend.

Even tho you have no idea about it, you were of great help, and you and I are much alike. Except the fact that I’m more charming and irresistibly sexier.

Take care Vic, and B&D readers, keep going the way you’re going, if you like it, if not change it right this fucking second and go the one you love.

    • Victor Pride says:

Ha! Great comment guy, this is going as the featured comment on the home page.

    • Impressive. Thanks for sharing your story!

    • Thanks for the motivation! that really fired me up! I am same age as you and getting the same bullshit from my parents all over again and again. Doesn’t matter though I go will on!

    • Simply brilliant.

Everyone loves you when you’re a winner. But you know who your true friends are when you’re still a nobody.

      • @Xavier Just don’t fall in trap of arguing, even when you feel like it. You’ll lose energy, time, nerves and won’t accomplish anything. They won’t get it. As in Hatebreed’s (music for winners) song “Facing what consumes you” ~ “Your doubt, it fuels me.Your hate, it drives me.The challenge ignites me.You make me fight harder!”

@Alex Ding That’s true. The one’s who were telling me they are going to share my expenses in a rented dump apartment even though they were as poor as you can imagine, or asking me to move in with them when the parents were about to kick me out, are the friends I’ll be loyal to and protect for life. Those leeches that dance around me with their hypocritical faces trying to make me like them will not receive anything but my ignoring and pity. “Everything nourishes what is already strong”. Where were they, when I was at rock bottom? And I’ve been there awhile. Except in my mind.

    • Damn this was quite inspiring to me.Thanks for the post!

    • Miki I feel very inspired by your comment.
I´m the same age as you and everybody is telling me too live like we say you fool or you will be a loser. A I JUST KNOW THAT I WILL MAKE IT , in my definition of success. Like you said other´s people negativity is fuel for your will.
What is your business all about ?
Do you have a website ?

      • I’m glad that my comment has inspired you, I don’t know why but after yours and Vic’s feedback I noticed I deeply enjoy sharing my philosophy and view on life with people.

Of course everyone is trying to make you live their way. For several reasons. First, at this age you probably haven’t accomplished anything which would prove your “position” in the society and your social circle. You can’t support yourself, you don’t have enough confidence, experience, whatever… In one word, you’re dependent. And when you’re dependent people are trying to submit you to their will. It takes sheer force of willpower and determination to keep going your way, even when failures kick in magnified by the silent (or not) mockery of your peers and their “I told you you can’t make it” shit.

Don’t hate them, just push on, if your way is really what you want to do and can’t imagine doing anything else, you’ll make it.

Regarding my business, I have over 100 monetized websites bringing me constant income with various methods from monthly memberships to eBook selling. I am the owner of all of my products and I do no affiliate marketing, CPA, PPC and other saturated crap.

I have talked to Victor and if we make a deal, I might offer a product only for B&D audience explaining exactly how and what I did and what you should do to to make it as an online entrepreneur.

        Take care man,
        Milanko.

        • Great , Miki ,
I appreciate your reply a lot. Thanks
I was asking for websites to get an idea what your business is all about.
Right now I cant´t imagine what on earth can earn someone a fortune doing only an online business. What specifically.
And I ask because that´s what my dream is to do.

What information can someone sell? I mean the niche of selfimprovment is already full. Nobody needs another Victor or a guy who sells you success with chicks.

          I have no idea-

I admit your answer that you have memberships ( for what ?Some kind of interest club?Porn?? ) and sell ebooks is too vague ( what kinds of ebooks , cooking , how-to´s ??Literature?) , but maybe you want to hide your privacy so it´s OK.

          Anyways ,
Thank you very much , Mik.
          Greg

  15. Great article Vic as always straight to the point No chaser…

    Thanks
    Buddy

    Keep up the good work!!!!

  16. Other than my girl, I have one friend.

He grew up selling popsicles and candy on the streets of mexico at the age of four.

He is now a successful business man.

    We talk ideas.

I learn from him, because he knows things I do not know.

He thinks differently than I have been raised.

Abandon your useless friends, the vampires, the vultures. They do nothing for you, but make you like them.

You become who you hang around with.

Loneliness is a horrible thing, though.

I understand not wanting anybody’s help. I felt that today when trying to smash a deadlift pr at the gym and a gentleman came up to me and offered useless advice. I immediately felt disturbed and weaker. I felt that if I pulled this, he would get the credit. Furious.

If I see someone that looks successful, (you can tell by the way they are groomed/dressed, the way they carry themselves and the way they speak) I strike up a conversation. Ask what he does, usually, he tells me about his business and how he started it. I “pick his brain”, as Victor has put it. Ask as much as I can. I learn something new everytime and I thank Vic for showing me this.

Man, I can’t wait to go back to my barber that makes 100k a year doing what he loves. Not just for the best haircut in my area, but for the advice I get from him.

Being a lone wolf is in your nature. You can not fight it, but do not hesitate to try and learn from someone who has accomplished what you are striving for.

    Great post Vic.

    -Aaron

    • Victor Pride says:

Your barber makes 100k per year? That’s amazing. After being in Asia for over a year and getting my haircut by tards I’d happily pay top dollar for a quality barber.

      • He says. I believe him.
This guy is the real deal.
The kind of barber you see in the movies and what not.
I can’t imagine what you are going through…
You might get a decent cut on like a “Goku” or something, right?

        • Victor Pride says:

I don’t know what a goku is. I get a decent enough cut but there are no craftsmen here. I can’t get the precision that a skilled barber can give. Anything like a high and tight is out of the question, I say “high and tight” and they hear “make me look like Forrest Gump”.

          • Cut it yourself. You can do a high and tight with a clipper, a few guards, and a mirror, and do it better than most barbers. It takes a little longer at first, but when you account for the time it takes you to go to a barber and wait in line you are still saving time, and money, and getting a better haircut, and improving your skill at the same time.

Or have your girlfriend do it. If she fucks it up, so what? Shave it and it’ll be back to speed in a month.

          • Victor Pride says:

I’ve been cutting it myself off and on for years. The style I use currently needs a pro, well, a semi pro to accomplish.

          • Haha Victor Gump!

  17. Buster Muffinhalf says:

Great post Uncle Vic. I’m sick and tired of doing my own fucking laundry and cleaning my house. I’m going to start having a chick do it for me. I have better things to do.

  18. Massive arms!

  19. Victor, I have a question about girls. You wrote an article years ago that I write. You advised to “be selfish”? What do you mean? I am fourteen years old. How could I use this in a practical situation.
I am looking to pick up girls.
Thanks Vic, I know your the guy to ask.
    Bryden

    • Victor Pride says:

Geeze guy, this is the 4th time you’ve asked and I believe I already answered one of your comments regarding this. Since you are 14 this is what you do: act like the dumb quarterback jock who doesn’t take the girls seriously. Make everything about you, not her.

  20. Seamus Wall says:

For the Last few Years every January I read That book “How I found freedom in an Unfree World” by Harry Browne.
I suggest dear readers printing off yourself a free pdf copy from this site.
    It’s good for your sanity
    http://stuffthatisgood.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/Harry-Browne-How-I-Found-Freedom-In-An-Unfree-World.pdf

  21. So I saw your definition of laziness….what then, is your definition of selfishness? Do you mean someone who does not give a shit about friends or family and would not sacrifice for their sake to help them in times of struggle? You did write an article called something like a letter to future fathers and leaders in which your definition of selfishness was explained somewhat and was not exactly the same as above. I have my own definition of selfishness but I would like to hear yours.

    • Victor Pride says:

In a nutshell you can call it this: Self Determination.

    • Being selfish means you prioratize yourself. Most of your time, energy and efforts are going to be dedicated to furthering your own ambitions.
So yes, many times your friends or family are going to want to take something from you, and you’re going to decide they can live without it, and utalize it yourself.

“You want money for cigs? Then I guess it’s time to quit.” -Selfish me to a family member.

  22. I have said it before and I will say it again. This was an awesome post. Why waste your time doing crappy little chores? when you can outsource them for a fee while you continue to work on your own business. Which is a) both more enjoyable and b) More profitable!

Do not trade your time for peasant work! Trade it for boss work!

    Jordan

  23. Victor, have You read anything from Robert Ringer? Wise words, huge inspiration, no bullshit.

  24. Hey Vic, wonderin’ if you could write another post on woman?

    Charlie

  25. Uncle Vic,

How much money can you expect to make by the Internet business you have described in past posts(thousands, millions, billions?)?

And what happened to the spartan entrepreneur?

    • Victor Pride says:

How much can you EXPECT to make? Guy, just ask me how many clouds I think there are. Most people online make jack. How much do you WANT to make, burn that figure into your mind and think about every day. That’s what I’ve done for 2013 and I’m exactly on track to hit it.

  26. I read How I Found Freedom in an Unfree World by Harry Browne and I thought parts of the book was really good, while other parts were only ok.

Overall, I like how he thinks. He wrote another fantastic book that Gary Bencivenga was raving about — The Secret of Selling Anything. I read it and I vouch for it.

I could totally relate to your lone wolf mentality. Growing up, I felt a bit out of place because I could not fit in with the sheep. I did not follow the latest TV shows. I do not like to hang out in malls. I like to do my own thing. But I still tried hard to fit in (because I thought was what we’re supposed to do) And I thought that was how you get girls.

But now, thanks you you and lots of the other “mentors” (basically authors who wrote fantastic things), I have learned to embrace my inner wolf.

    Rock on!

  27. Vic,

Just curious why you seem to spend most of your time in Asian countries. Do you have any plans of going long term stays in Eastern Europe or South America?

    • Victor Pride says:

      Ron,

I live here, so it makes it easy why I stay here and travel around the area. I’m not a “permanent traveler” guy. I like stability. In the near future I’m not leaving Asia except to go to the US and as far as LONG term stays I doubt it very much, even the thought is 2015 and beyond.

  28. Hell yeah!! Great post.

I used to question people telling me I was lazy and then I realised I wasn’t. Lazy people don’t get up at 6.am every morning to work out.

I just don’t agree in spending my time mowing lawns, putting up shelves, and other mundane jobs that take up my time when I could be out kicking ass like ‘uncle victor’!!!

Good job. (I’m enjoying the extra posts and the quality is still there)

  29. Uncle Vic, I like the post, I like the site, I like the advice you give. I would like to reciprocate with one advice.
This advice is not something you don’t already know, but I think you have overlooked it in point 1.
Here is the advice: Always look at things from other perspectives as well.
This pertains to this part specifically: “b) how they could be so stupid to sell the exact same thing right next to each other.”
One way to look at selling the same thing right next to each other is the standard business school mentality: It is stupid, because you should find your own thing, and carve out a niche, etc. Based on this what they are doing is in fact stoooopid. However there is a method to their madness.
Let me explain this method, and give you the other perspective of looking at it. Since you live in Asia now, you might have noticed that they have streets dedicated to varios professions, services, products. One street has people selling bathroom fixtures right next to each other, another street has people who sell electronics right next to each other. There are many streets, even areas like this.
When I noticed it, my first reaction was the same as yours: it is really dumb, why are they doing it? Shouldn’t they just start something different, and ‘conrer the market’? So I asked around. They are doing it because it is a system that works very well. The people in town know where to go if they need electronics, bathroom fixtures, etc. They don’t have to travel all over town and find different stores, they just go to that one street, and compare all the stores, find the best deal.
It also works well for the people who want to start a business. They don’t have to think about what kind of business to start, where to start it, how to find customers, etc. They are starting in an existing market, with existing customer base. They can skip the market research, the advertising, the business plan, etc, they can just open their business, keep it running, people will show up (build it and they’ll come, sounds familiar?) and the store owner will make a living. They won’t make a killing, but they will have a stable income, the business will bring home the bacon. The flipside of it is, of course, that if you open an electronics store in the street of jewellers, you’re gonna have a bad time. People looking for jewelry will go to the street of jewellers, and people looking for electronics won’t necessarily want to buy jewelry. Having eliminated the competition practically eliminated the market.
Interestingly, this also proves your point about doing the lazy thing. They don’t like to do market research, planning, taking unnecessary risks, they do the lazy thing: open a store, the same as all the other stores, and keep at it. All the family members will learn what to do in the store, they don’t kill themselves with unnecessary work, they make a good living. Nothing exceptional, they won’t change the world, save the baby seals, or anything, but they have time for friends, family, anything they like to do.

  30. Vic,

For your laundry, cooking, and cleaning - are you using a maid service, or is that your girlfriend?

I’ve been following your blog for a while and I get the feeling you have been a stable relationship for some time now - I could be wrong. Your “only peace of advice you’ll ever need” article hit it out of the ballpark along with “how to meet shy girls”. Loved that scene from that one article where your girl questioned your path and you stood your ground firmly and she respected you for it (I forget the title, but I’ll never forget reading that scene). Anyway, long story short, would love to hear any further insights you have on relationship maintenance, specifically maintaining a relationship while kicking ass - how to balance time and energy with your business and your girl (provided she is a good girl fully supportive, feminine, submissive, etc). Do you ever do nice stuff for your chick (aside from providing for her of course) take her out to dinner etc. Or is it raging bull full speed ahead 24-7 and she is a 100% slave

  31. Any tips on finding an efficient laptop?

  32. Rational Selfishness & Some Machiavellian tactics

If everyone was rationally selfish, the world will be a better place to live. But I don’t think Ayn Rand’s Objectivism philosophy is well received (or even heard of) by the masses.

Being selfish by going after personal goals without interfering with the rights of others, an individual can do no wrong. It’s the manipulative, win-at-all-cost, trample on your face methods that will bring around bad karma. But hey, everybody is morally superior to everyone else. A little Machiavelli helps once in a while.

Keep doing what you do. Great posts as always.

  33. Hi Victor,

Thanks for putting yourself out there and stating top notch advices.

  34. Great site >> Your second point regarding outsourcing - rock on brother.

There is absolutely no way I could’ve gotten my site up and running without outsourcing at least one of the many, many fucking tasks I had to do to get it up and running.

I read through some comments above and saw someone asking about what type of laptop to pickup:

MacBook Pro <<>> Yes, definitely agree with you here chief.

There is absolutely no other computer easier to use than this golden piece of fine Apple machinery.

    [Question]
Are you finishing up a shake of raw eggs?

I kill six raw eggs a day and instantly thought of that when I took a glance at you pictured above in your post.

Anyways, glad I came across this site. Great info and definitely worth a recommend +++

    Keep it real boss.

    • Yeah Mac book pro is the the best ,but just to damn expensive.

      • What laptop you want really depends on what you intend to do with it, and the money you have. For me, my lenovo ideapad 510p is almost perfect, but I can’t recommend it due to shit wireless card.

For you, a $200 chromebook might be all you need.

If you just want to develop websites or something, any laptop will do. Just get something that you find comfortable to type on.

http://i.imgur.com/bWhGmAr.jpg Photo taken with my laptops ‘HD webcam’. They should be ashamed to advertise it as such.

This was my work station when my old laptop died. An ainol aurora II chinese tablet (great, but has issues. Long battery life and phenominal IPS screen make it a lovely pdf reader.)
Using a frame from the dollar store, cheap keyboard and a micro usb to usb adapter (not shown), along with the kingsoft app, I got all my typing done.
The washing machine makes a decent desk.

        • Victor Pride says:

hahahahaha! I looked at that picture and actually laughed out loud.

          • Heh, I’ll consider that a good side effect.
Hopefully it illustrates my point: If you can’t afford the best, get something that does the job.

        • Wow now that is frugal living haha. You know i think i may give the used macbook pro a shoot.I want something that would last me for at least three or more years and still be running strong when I feel comfortable in getting a new one.Quality over quantity.

          • Victor Pride says:

I bought a MBP 1.5-2 years ago, used, for about $700. I’d have no problem paying for a brand new one if something happened to mine.

  35. Great post Vic, it turn out to be much better than I expected. B&D rules!!

  36. The tricky part that a lot of guys get tripped up on is knowing the difference between the kinds of good laziness and bad laziness that Victor’s talking about here. The power of the human mind to trick itself into believing it’s not doing something for good reasons is pretty amazing. As much as I hate the guy, 50 cent was well onto this. Read the book?

    http://www.learningthesteel.com/the-50th-law-book-review/

    Kick-ass read.

    • Victor Pride says:

I read that book. I liked the parts about 50 cents but I disliked the parts by the author, Robert Greene.

    • Just check it out and got the kindle version. I’m only 10 pages in and loving it already!
Wish I’d followed what you said though and got the leather version.
Will definitely be reading this again…and again

  37. Victor, I recently ran into this book, I think that you may find it interesting.http://www.scribd.com/doc/518116/King-Warrior-Magician-Lover-Rediscovering-The-Archetypes-Of-The-Mature-Masculine. Cheers and keep up the good work!

  38. Kick-ass post. Being a Lone Wolf is amazing.

  39. Great post man!

You know - everything you say either reminds me of something i’ve thought, or it teaches me something and i agree with it right off.

I too followed a different path. Aged 16 i stood up in the middle of my computer studies class (which i’d taken on the advice of my dad at making a comfy 80k a year) and i walked right out of there. I had only one goal in mind: get rich (which to me means only get free) or die trying.

For years i took this job and that job - i drifted from europe to Australia through Asia, talking to people, learning from them, and figuring it out. I met an old man who had been on the road since he was 17, and he told me “there’s only three ways out of the system son - over, under and around. Over is to be a huge success, under is to drop out and hitch-hike, around is to volunteer. I tried under and around, but neither worked for me. I always ended up broke and back to square one. But i NEVER gave up.

Eventually I found myself in Jakarta, Indonesia (where i am to this day). I took a job teaching English which didn’t make me rich but gave me a lot of holidays and free time. i read all the books by Wayne Dyer, Tony Robbins, whatever i could get my hands on. I meditated, i ran, I grew into a man and realized that while i had been “free” while drifting - it wasn’t sustainable.

It’s been 5 years since i made up my mind to stay here and build the life i want. I can’t say I’m “free” yet, but i can tell you i now work on a rig which gives me 6 months a year off and gives me more money than most people can even think of. I just got offered a job for a quarter million dollars a year, to work 6 months! OK, I’m not independent, but i don’t mind doing the 80hours a week for the next 5 years and then chilling on my boat forever (I’ll only be 35 when i retire).

So I’d like to say this - while i respect your way, there are ways to get free by working a “job” - but you have to go further than most are willing to. You have to do 80 hours a week for 6 weeks at a time in the Papuan jungle, you have to fly 8000 miles away from your family and friends and overcome every test along the way. Then you have to not blow that money on a hummer and a beach-house, you have to invest it and start your own company (which i have).

I’m getting married now to the best and most beautiful woman i’ve ever met because having a family is my dream - but I’m gna take them everywhere traveling, i’m gna live how i see fit and i just wanna say this to all of the people on this website who aren’t there yet:

DO NOT SUBMIT. YOU WILL WIN - if you prove to the world you have the balls and the grit and the genuine uniquness to do it.

    Good luck lads!

  40. Hi Vic,

Great post, however I have two questions.
I completely agree with being lazy and I’m eating out every day.
However as much as I try 90% of the food are junk.
I can’t go to sweet tomato everyday, not that I don’t like it but even if you eat junk food everyday (McD) you’ll get sick of it after a week.

So how do you outsource your meals and eat well and not get sick of eating the same thing/restaurant everyday?

Secondly regarding doing chores around the house - cleaning, laundry etc.
I mean I guess I can pay for someone to come and clean my house, but they are kind of expensive (min $150 per session) but also I’m not home (single) and when I’m (weekdays) I don’t want to sit around while someone is working on my house (I can’t relax or do my own thing)

    Thanks!!

  41. “…if you don’t have a mentor, if you don’t have a good teacher, if you don’t have a role model, or if you don’t belong to this group or that group it’s not the end of the world.”

With said quote, you have rejuvenated my faith in my somewhat successful online endeavours. I need to embrace my laziness and realize that not everyone can do what I do - or else I wouldn’t be doing it successfully.

    Thank you.

  42. Here is a guy that turned his laziness into accomplishment and is reaping the benefits.

    http://www.entrepreneur.com/article/230991

  43. The part where you explained laziness as you just don’t do the things you don’t want to do really struck with me. Right now I’m in college and I HATE everything about it. I dont like hw, studying, and memorizing shit i have absolutely no interest for, and my performance is based on how well i do shit i dont like? Wtf kind of system is this?

I want to live my life doing what i want to do which is pursue my lifestyle of nutrition and fitness my way, not the American Dietetics Associations way. College sucks all the motivation and creative energy out of me and gets in the way of building my website and life the way i want to. Everyday i feel like im wasting precious time that could be spent on building my own career.

That degree is literally going to sit on the wall somewhere and i have no plans on using it. Should i just stop school and pursue my dream of the life i want? I feel that if i do that the pressure of my parents would become stressful, but i know deep inside college doesnt feel right. Im on the edge of saying fuck it and putting up a middle finger to everyone who says college is the only way to make a living and what i want to do is risky. Your blog has inspired me Victor, i feel the lone wolf rising inside of me, and he is damn ravenous!

  44. You sir are my new hero.

  45. So I got a job in a corporation…damn I couldn’t believe what I saw… Just what you talk about it MEN gossiping, talking shit and bullshitting.

Good thing I’ve become deaf to BS I mean literally deaf, my ears will plug up when bullshiters bullshit at me I DON’T HEAR THEM, I’ve developed laser like focus. The workplace is pathetic almost everybody gossips and shits on each other it’s goddamn sad. But fuck em I won’t be here very long.

What’s great is that I spotted a gym through the bushes of the parking space where I park. I’m signing up tomorrow, BOAS - here I come.
