When you were a little kid, summer was the best time of year.
Summer was when you didn't have to go to school.
You were free for 3 months and for those 3 months you lived in heaven.
Even though summer was hotter than hades you didn't care, you were free and you had no worries.
You'd go out to play all day and night. You'd play football, baseball, basketball, hide and go seek, tag, and any other game you could think of.
You'd go out to the creek to fish or catch frogs. You'd go swim in the lakes and rivers. You'd build forts in the back-yard. You'd have sleepovers with your friends.
On rainy days you'd play video games and watch movies.
All year long you waited for summer and you dreamed of summer when you could break free from the schoolyard prison.
Then somewhere along the way you grew up and summer lost it's magic.
You got stuck working some job and you didn't have summers off. Actually, you didn't have any time off.
Instead of summer being the great time of year where you were free, it was just another day when you had to go to work.
You found yourself inside the air-conditioning all day saying “I hate summer! It's so hot!”
Instead of being free, it was like you were a slave.
In fact, you did that slave gig for 10 years.
You worked this job and that job, never having more than a few days off at a time and never having anything to show for it.
Always hating summer, hating your job, and hating life.
You listened to the bad advice to go to college and get a good degree so you can get a good job.
It sure seemed like if you got a good job all of your freedom vanished and you were supposed to wait until you were 65 years old to be free and retired.
You wondered why they told you it was so important to get a good job when all of them were miserable and they all hated their jobs.
You listened only because you didn't know another option.
They always talked about “the real world this and real world that” where you had to trade your precious time for a meager paycheck.
Their “real world” was a nightmare world that made everybody miserable.
In their real world summer felt like death.
But you powered through for 10 long years not knowing any better, pretending that retirement is when you'd be able to travel and be free.
“Someday…” you'd say to yourself.
“Someday.”
Then one day you opened your eyes and you realized something. It was like you woke up from a nightmare and all of the sudden you felt wonderful.
You had a question you kept asking yourself…
“Why someday instead of today?”
“Why not today?” you kept wondering.
Then all of a sudden you knew the answer in an instant.
Right then you decided to quit your job and live your life.
You were scared but you did it anyway. You'd had enough.
You opted out of giving your life away and waiting for pretend paradise at 65.
You said to them “nope, that's not for me.”
Life is meant to be enjoyed and that is why you started living everyday like it was a summer holiday.
You decided to never trade your most precious asset (your time) for a meager paycheck.
You decided to create your own paycheck and spend your time as you please.
You go hiking, fishing, playing ball, swimming, off-roading, camping, or you do nothing but sitting around, drinking ice tea on a hot summer's day.
You do whatever you want instead of whatever you're told to do. You no longer accept authority.
You spent 10 years in the work-force, hating summer and hating life, listening to their bad advice.
Then one day you woke up from the nightmare and you quit your job forever.
You went into business for yourself and magically everyday became like summer again.
The best decision you ever made in you life was to permanently quit all jobs and work only for yourself.
*poof*
You instantly had more money, more freedom, more energy, more time, and more fun in the sun.
After 10 years of slavery, you learned that you make more money as a free man than you do as a slave AND you have free time to do as you please.
You no longer feel stressed and bored staying inside with the aircon blowing fake air into your face, yelling into the air “I hate summer! It's so hot!”
Now you get outside into the natural aircon and sleep in your own thousand star hotel.
You get out to the mountains where the air is cool and crisp at night.
You made summer cool again, just like when you were a little child. You don't sit around staying stuck in a rut at home, you get out and you make life happen.
So many people say to you “Wow! That's exactly what I'm looking for! I wish I could do it, but I can't because I have to go to work tomorrow.”
You tell them the truth they've never heard before: You do not have to have a job to live in this world.
All of their talk about getting good jobs and “real world this and real world that” is just baloney. None of it is true.
You do not have to give away all of your time to live in this world.
You ask them if they ever saw the movie Office Space?
In the movie, Peter hated his life because he hated his job. Every day got worse and worse.
Every day he was alive was the worst day of his life until he got hypnotized and realized he didn't have to work anymore.
After counting down from 3, 2, 1 Peter was healed from the lie that you have to work.
Then his life got better and better. He became happy when he stopped caring about working a job.
Office Space is such a popular movie because EVERYBODY hates their jobs!
They all tell you exactly the same thing.
This is what they say: “I hate my job. I wish I could do what you do but I can't because I have to work.”
“Wrong wrong wrong!” you say to them.
They're just like Peter in Office Space, they only think they have to work but that spell can be broken in an instant.
All you have to do is ask them the question:
“Why not today?”
If you think about it honestly, you will realize that having a job will keep you from being alive and it will keep you from thriving.
Working will keep you just above water and only barely. Working for yourself will give you everything you ever wanted.
A job is slavery, quitting is freedom.
“But what about money?” they always ask.
You tell them the truth….
There are million of ways you can fund your summer vacations without wasting your winters working.
You can make summer cool again and you can make everyday a summer holiday like the ones you had when you were a kid.
You can make every day a smile instead of a frown.
All you have to do is listen to yourself and never listen to them.
You do not have to work like a slave to live in this world.
You can live as you please.
Understand?
Good.
After I count down from 3 to 1, you will wake up in the real world.
In the real world, every day is a summer holiday.
The fake world is the world you had to work in.
That fake world is over, and your real world begins in…
3…..
2…..
1…..
Welcome to summer.
It's so cool here, isn't it?
Until next time.
Your man,
-Victor Pride

Dope article.
I remember the days when I rode my bike to the river and jumped off the rope swing with my buddies. Now I pretty much do the same things but i have a car.
Awesome post, Vic!
My permanent summer of Saturdays will be here soon!
Thanks to you and your work, we can break free from the work we hate and do the work we love.
Every day, everyyy freakin dayyy I’m getting more and more frustrated. I work in retail and I hate hate hate it. It’s a prison. Even if I would be a millionaire from this job I would still hate it. I want to be free so badlyyy, you have no idea. I keep screaming to myself “you have to break free” , “you have to do something, because this is not life”. But I still haven’t found my inner voice, I still don’t fuckin know what I should do. I just started something on the internet, I’m not getting any results yet, but I’m still hoping it will work. Because I have to quit my job, I have to get out of prison, it’s fucking killing meeeeee.
Save up and quit when you have enough.
Get rid of the bills. Get rid of all the unnecesary payments.
Then with 3000 in the bank quit and go hustle like there is no tomorrow.
If you fail. You find another job and try again.
If you succeed you are not in prison anymore.
also, in fiverr, u can hustle hard wirting for others ppl, voiceover, commment, etc.
if u willing to HUSTLE HARD u can make in this world.
Yesss, and if you are willing to work hard and be one of the best in your field you will really make it.
Like the other guy said, get into freelancing stuff. If you take that same 40 hours a week at your job and put it into learning freelancing stuff (and you have a really good skill that you can offer, whether it is making websites, writing stuff, drawing stuff, writing code, whatever) you’ll pretty much replace your retail income.
I “work” about 15 hours a week (if that) doing freelancing stuff and I make roughly the same as I would have made doing 20 some odd hours at the retail job I used to have.
Aside from construction or call centers, retail is probably the worst job anyone can have (I’d argue that call centers are by far the worst). There are other ways to trade out time for money that are way more fun.
What if your skills are only in a counselling field? How can you get that om the internet really?
Great Article Victor. Just to point out, I think you are missing a “you” in the article at the beginning.
“It sure seemed like if got a “good job” …”
Thanks Jocko.
Old school but refreshing article Vic. The articles linked to this one are also great. This summer was the first one that I was not free. And I did not like it. Not.One.Bit. It went by so fast. So forgettable.
Thankfully I found a job at a hotel next to the beach for next summer season. It’s at least half a solution.
Next step…All seasons become summer seasons.
How was your summer?
By the way, do you compose the music yourself? I know you used to play guitar so it would make sense.
Thanks for the great article and have a good day Vic!
lad,
why not create a blog about the beach u work ?
Im building it as we speak PJ
if u need help, write your email here and i will help u .
Yes sir yes sir , the free men
Great article Victor,
It reminded me of the day I quit my job… I did it without any plan.
Even my boss tried to convince me to at least create a back up plan. He said “this is madness, what are you gonna do?”
I was determined to not living like that…
I shook eveyone’s hand and left the office. I saw those eyes, they were telling me “wish I could do the same”
I put on my ears my headphone, opened a song from manowar - die for metal which says “Quit my job this morning said forever
I would hold my head up high”.
One of my highest moments in life, I knew nothing is gonna be the same.
I packed my stuff and got rid of the town.
Well, it has been just 6 months but it feels much much longer. 1,5 year in my job felt like “puff”, it was damn quick… I don’t even remember a single spesific day, every day was the same as before.
Thanks for this article to remind me of my story
amen. amen. amen!
what do u sell ?
congrats for the balls of steel lad.
the zombie at office were just dyin` when u left. nice play!
Thank you, PJ. All men have them, some just forgot.
Nah men Ugur,
Not all men.
We are a different race. Most men and women have zombie eyes.
Just look at streets. Their eyes didnt even glow.
WE at least will die for our dreams. We will make it not matter what happens.
That`s our unfair advantage.
I did the same thing a little over a year ago. Swung by there a couple days ago, the EXACT SAME people work there. It’s sad. They LITERALLY look like zombies.
I do freelance writing now and the pay is pretty much the same. Only I’m in control of pretty much everything. I can work 18 hours a week or 80 its all up to me.
I’m still trading out time for money but at least it is more on my own terms than before.
You feel me, man. I’m glad you made it your way.
At least u ALIVE.
Zombie people are real.
I wasn`t kidding.
I see `em everyday day in streets and offices.
If u want to make REALLY GOOD MONEY, create a blog talking about what u do and post good contents and guides and later launch your videos courses.
if u want super charge that, create a blog AND a youtube channel.
talk the same shit in both. but in youtub teach ppl using videos (of course).
THEN, you will make good MOOONEY selliing ppl what they really want to buy.
ok?
While actively planning my escape out out of the rat race, I would tell people that all I really wanted was to be free to do whatever, whenever, and however I wanted.
They’d all look at me with a smirk as if I’d just said the most obvious thing in the world and say, “well that’s obviously what everybody wants.”
After some time I realized they were right. It IS the most obvious thing in the world and it IS what everybody wants.
What I found however, is that not everybody is willing to do what it takes to get there.
It’s true, “successful people do what unsuccessful people are not willing to do.”
Badass article Victor!
“When you were a little kid, summer was the best time of year.”
True as fuck! Really true.
The world where every day is a “summer holiday” day IS that fucking awesome world I’m striving to be! This world exactly,, not anything else.
Great article Vic. This resonates with me big time, I would always think and contemplate how great life would be if I can just be free like those summer days when I was a kid. One day I woke up and said “fuck it,” I want freedom, I always got sick to my stomach when my family and friends would say “Jack, get a real job like a normal person.” I don’t want to be normal, we have one life, and we should make it heaven, not hell. Worked my ass off and started a drop shipping company with shopify. I am not rich by any means but at least I am free. I also started my blog about reaching freedom, thanks to your inspiration. Making it with blogging is better than a drop shipping business in my opinion. The reality is it’s more fulfilling sharing your passion and teaching than it is to make money with selling products you don’t really give a crap about. Thanks again for the inspiration!
if u sell the “secrets of shopify” u can do EVEN MORE MONEY lad.
jm2c.
Yes, true, but first I am going to create lots of free great articles. I am currently writing how to start a dropshipping business & why you should start a dropshipping business. It’s going to be a kickass article.
amen. in the end of this guide u should post a link selling a course.
yes.
selling a ghost course.
if someone buys it, cancel it, and tell the ppl who bought it you will talk with `em at telephone.
after it, u can make a course about your subjject, cause you already validate the market.
I just published a great article explaining what dropshipping is and why you should start one. I will soon release a free guide on how to start a dropshipping business, it will be very detailed.
Haha! Awesome, absolutely inspiring Vic! Yes, I definitely can’t wait to get out to “my own summer”(one of my favorite songs by Deftones).
I’m working on it brother and I’m getting ever closer. I’ve tried and failed many times already but I’ll never quit.
Its crazy when you make that shift in mindset to get what you want no mayter what. It becomes very hard to relate or communicate with the average person.
It’s just like you wrote in NWR, “you can’t do it because I cannot possibly concieve of such a thing…”
Thanks alot.
Need to establish your own income and work nonstop to break free. Don’t really like the impression this article gives. Just quit without a plan. Sounds too gimmicky.
Victor if you do like a audiobook version of BD volume 1,2,3,4,5… let me know, I ‘ll buy it.
Awesome that I now can hear your voice while reading the article. Keep the good work up, Vic!
ma` uncle Vic,
please hire someone and create a video about this and put to youtube?
why not vic?
why not now?
regards ma`friend,
PJ Pires
Great article, Vic. You’re actually one of the main reasons I decided to start a blog myself. Now my life is a permanent summer as well haha ;)
Living this permanent summer since always and forever.
Beautiful piece.
Inspiring post Vic. I want your perspective on something if you don’t mind. We’re due for another economic collapse and recession and it’s estimated to be within the next two years. If and when it happens, how do you think it will affect an already successful blog artist like yourself? More importantly to your readers, it will likely make starting a new business/monetised blog a near impossibility for a few years. Curious about what plan of action you might recommend. Keeping in mind there may not be ample time to set up a self sustaining internet income before it strikes. Idea for a blog post perhaps?
Great article, it was a blend of your energy from the past and the present. A killer combo.
My last summer was taken from me, due to my own illusions. I almost fell into that trap again this summer, but I became truly fed up with the illusions of myself and society, and took my summer back.
On a side-note, I enjoy reading the comments on your posts. One of the few bullshit-free comment sections on the internet.
See you at the swimming pool.
That’s it. That’s fucking it. This came to me at the perfect time. Wow it’s amazing how some things just appear out of nowhere. I’ve been wanting to quit my job forever and I’m just about to turn 21. It’s time, fear is holding me back. Not anymore. Victor you just kicked me in the ass. No more excuses. Time to live life on my own terms. So long!
I quit my job today. Here we go.
I Just got fired! I was planning to quit this summer like you guys, but I guess summer comes early this year.
3/14/19 will mark the day I started my life for real. Thank you Victor!
When will you, dear comment reader, start YOUR life for real?
great post’ victor has forced me to use my brain in the summer instead of bluff.
